The Forts

The military posts of the saga bring uniforms, supplies, records, and another kind of authority to the frontier.

A place with its own character.

In 28 Days to Die, Fort Lyon is part of Briggs’ journey through a frontier where work and danger often arrive together. A fort may appear to promise structure. Inside, that structure is maintained by people, and people bring their own judgment to the rules.

The setting is practical as well as imposing: offices, bunks, storage, command rooms, and the movements of enlisted men. Supplies must be counted. Orders must be followed. A ledger can turn a human problem into an entry that looks settled on paper.

Fort Sumner also appears in the wider Coyote Bend saga, connected with merchants, freight, army traffic, and government business. These posts show how the larger institutions of the territory touch settlements that may seem far from their reach.
